Description
2/16/26- For sale is a traditional handmade Japanese wakizashi sword from the 1600s or late 1500s. The wakizashi is shorter Japanese sword that was traditionally carried as the companion to the slightly longer katana. The blade on this sword is very nice, showing a clear curve and a good wavy line showing the traditional forging process. There are two slightly darkened spots on the blade that appear to be mostly surface discoloration, not deep rust or damage. There are no chips or scratches to the blade. The handle is a traditional wooden handle with an aged silk wrapping. The edges of the handle have small gold-filled birds on them. The scabbard is bamboo with a reddish-brown finish and modern cord for tying to the sword or for hanging the scabbard. There is a small knife built into the scabbard near the mouth and can be removed by pulling the decorated panel. The sword also comes with a modern cloth wrap bag. Overall in excellent conditon.
