Description
8/13/25 - This is a Savage Model 99 from 1900. An early, hammerless lever-action with the signature rotary spool magazine and left-side round counter, this 1900 rifle represents the first year Savage offered the Model 1899 in .30-30 (the model debuted in .303 Savage only). The rotary magazine let Savage safely use modern spitzer-profile bullets—a key advantage over tubular-magazine lever guns of the era—while retaining smooth feeding and a slim, lively profile in the field. Collectors prize these turn-of-the-century 1899s for their fit and finish, mechanical innovation, and place at the start of the .30-30 option; the “Model 99” name would not replace “1899” until the 1920s. A classic, early-production Savage with desirable caliber and features. This one has been refinished and shows very little wear. No major damage to the wood, just some minor bruising here and there. It has been lacquered. The bore shows mostly good rifling, but there is some noticeable pitting toward the muzzle end. Very smooth action.
