Description
10/20/25 - This is a very nice wartime-production 2nd Model Luftwaffe dagger by the scarce Solingen maker Anton Wingen Jr. Marked on the reverse with the the proper “Standing Knight” makers mark over “A. W. JR / SOLINGEN", which is slightly faded but still fully visible. While the unplated 2nd Model Luftwaffe blade features an intact edge profile and point, with some factory crossgraining still visible under the right lighting and no signs of use or sharpening, there is light patina and surface level runner marks throughout the blade. The original leather buffer pad remains in place. The hilt mounts are excellent, beginning with a copper-plated, blackened aluminum pommel retaining nearly all plating with crisp detail, with minor darkening from age. The blackened aluminum eagle-form crossguard shows handling marks and some color variance and spots of wear here and there. The plated-steel ferrule is excellent. The grip is white celluloid over wood, still ivory white, with proper taper and excellent tight twisted-wire wrap. There are a couple spots of light staining and a couple deep cracks on the obverse, though the grip is held tightly together with the wire wrapping. The steel scabbard is dent-free and very good, retaining much original zinc plating now toned to a dark gray patina and a few areas of deeper oxidation here and there. Well-defined zinc hanger bands bearing hand-enhanced oak leaves set at 45 degrees and a narrow throat secured by a single flush rear screw. Comes with original portepee which is in great shape, with some handling marks and a couple shaved threads.
