Description
2/10/26- For sale is a nice Kriegsmarine junior officer's cap with provenance. The cap itself is made from navy blue wool with no discoloration or any damage. The Kriegsmarine eagle and cockade are both done in metallic thread and show expected age-related wear and fading, appropriate for the piece. The swastika has been unstitched from the eagle, meaning the cap was denazified, potentially by the original owner who wanted a wartime souvenir without the political baggage. The gold stitching along the brim is brightly colored and intact. The front strap is very nice and may be a later replacement. The leather of the brim is fully intact. The leather headband is aged and fragile, proper for the age of the hat. There is a period-correct newspaper folded up under the brim to give slightly more padding and better fit. The paper has been carefully unfolded and it is dated October 6, 1941, a very cool find on its own! The name of the original owner is on a tag under a plastic sheet inside the top of the cap. The cap comes with a typed description of the cap and its owner from the pervious seller. Two photographs are also included, one a family photo featuring a man in this exact model of cap, and another showing a Luftwaffe observer wearing a Kriegsmarine badge, so it is very possible that both photos show the original owner of the cap. Overall in excellent condition and a very nice piece of history!
