Description
11/18/2025 - This is an early example of a Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Pre-Model 10 revolver. Pre-10s with an "S" serial number prefix were made immediately after the war, from 1945 to 1948. The serial number range was S811338 to S999999 (from 1945-1948), at which point S&W switched to a "C" prefix, placing production date on this somewhere in 1945-1946. Featuring a 6" barrel, this revolver is all matching, with serial number stamped on the barrel and frame, and assembly number stamped on cylinder and both sides of the swing out yoke. The revolver has retained about 85% of its bluing, with most wear concentrated to the grip straps/butt, with significant thinning and wear on the backstrap/mild finish loss on the butt, and the top of the frame, with finish loss on along both sides of the notched rear sight and top of the tang. There are also areas of thinning and finish loss on and around the high edges of the cylinder, with scattered handling marks and freckles of oxidation here and there on the frame and straps. clear turn line on the cylinder as well. A bit of of mild muzzle wear. Excellent mechanics in both single and double action, and minty bore and grips.
