Description

07/23/26 - This is an early Smith & Wesson K-22 Outdoorsman 1st Model revolver, chambered in .22 LR with a 6-inch barrel. Production of this variation began at serial number 632132 in 1931 and continued into 1940, with a total production of a bit more than 19,000 in total. Based on its early serial number and configuration, this revolver likely dates to approximately 1931–1933. Without a factory letter, it is difficult to determine the exact date of shipment or manufacture, because Smith and Wesson often shipped these out of sequence. The barrel bears the standard “SMITH & WESSON,” “22 LONG RIFLE CTG,” and Springfield address and patent markings. This revolver is all matching with serial number 637663 stamped on the butt of the grip frame, underside of the barrel, rear face of the cylinder, and inside the numbered grip panel (only one panel should be serialized on these). Matching assembly number 3295 is properly stamped on the yoke and yoke cut. The mechanics are excellent, with tight lockup, excellent timing, and a smooth trigger in both single and double action. The revolver retains around 90% of its lustrous original bluing, with most of the finish loss concentrated along both sides of the barrel, mostly towards the muzzle. Additional wear consists of a few minor marks on the top strap, some thinning at the tang and along the sides of the trigger guard light wear around the fronts edges of the cylinder, a few spots between the cylinder notches, and a typical turn line. There are scattered small dots of surface oxidation on both sides of the frame, and the underside of the trigger guard. The original checkered walnut grips are excellent, with strong checkering and show only very light handling wear. The grips fit tightly to the gun and ergonomically in the hand, with no notable cracks or chips. The bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling and minor evidence of use.
