Description
10/14/25- For sale is an original WWI German dog tag. Rather than the American or British pattern dog tags that are two individual tags on one chain, German tags were one piece of metal that could be snapped in half to produce two identity tags. This example has already been broken down the middle but both halves are matching, indicating this is one original tag. The string is possibly or likely replaced. The name on the tag is Walter Hartung, born August 31, 1899, meaning he would have been only 18 during the climactic battles of spring and summer 1918. Overall in very good condition, with some patina but still fully readable.
