Description
3/18/26 - This is a fantastic example of a Colt Model 1895 Double Action Revolver, chambered in ".38 D.A.", and produced for the commercial market in 1906. This revolver, featuring a 6" barrel, stems from Colt’s first swing-out cylinder design, which was initially used on the Model 1889. Colt made 291,000 Double Action Revolvers from 1895 to 1907, though over half of these were issued to either the Army or Navy. A particularly notable and unique feature of earlier DA variations is the cylinder's counter-clockwise rotation, which is retained by the spring-driven release lever on the revolver's left side. As wear and usage built over time, the continuous rotational torsion would eventually start to force the cylinder slightly out of alignment with the barrel, impacting timing and general mechanics, until the issue was corrected in later variations. This commercial example retains about 98% of its bluing, with wear on the high edges of the cylinder, around the muzzle, and a few spots of finish loss on the underside of the trigger guard and back strap. Some minor handling marks here and there. While there isn't much actual finish loss, there is some mild surface oxidation along the left and undersides of the barrel. Assembly number '295' is properly stamped on both sides of the crane and the safety lever. Excellent mechanics on this one. Minty bore. Fitted with a perfect set of original rubber Colt grips.
