Incredible, Ornate Hunting Rifle Presented To RAD Head Konstantin Hierl

8/28/26 -  This is a one-of-one, ornately engraved hunting rifle presented to Konstantin Hierl, the head of the Reich Labour Service and a major figure in the administration of Nazi Germany.  The rifle is a Hochwildbuchse game rifle, chambered in 7x65R.  It is accompanied by a plaque reading "Weidmannsheil 3um 62 Geburtsag die Arbeitsgaufuhrer und Amtschefs", and a presentation case with the the monogram KH on it.  This plaque translates to "Best Wishes on your 62nd birthday - from the regional work leaders and department heads".   From our research, this was presented to him by a group of labor department heads working under him as a birthday gift.  Every German had compulsory service in the RAD (6mo), along with but prior to their compulsory military service.  Hierl had a storied history in German military roles, including leading a Freikorps unit in 1918, receiving the Golden Party Badge, becoming an SA Gruppenfuhrer, and obviously RAD chief.  

The rifle features both beautifully engraved metal and ornately carved wood features.  Additionally, both sides feature the Reich Labor (RAD) emblem with what appears to be an ivory or bone inlay, and Hierl's initials are again engraved in gold on the top lever.  The barrel is marked for Remo in Suhl, and is internally dated 6/30 (June of 1930 presumably).  Handguard, barrel and receiver all have matching serial numbers.  Bore is shiny with good rifling but does have minor frost in the grooves.  Action is good, rifle shows no notable defects or mechanical issues.  The presentation case shows some age and handling wear but is in good condition overall.  It comes with a period Carl Zeiss scope with clear optics, a sample box of ammo with six rounds of original ammo, a lanyard, and a sling.
