9/17/25- For sale is a beautiful Japanese Wakizashi short sword. Made in the mid-1600s in the Edo period of Japanese history, this sword bears a clear maker's mark from Kozuke Yoshikuni, a recognized smith with numerous other authentic and high quality pieces in circulation. The sword has the plain wooden fittings and purple silk sack that is traditional after a professional Japanese sword polishing. The blade is in perfect condition, with no scratches, rust, chips, wear, pitting, or any other sort of damage. The fittings are entirely plain wood, also in excellent condition, and the handle is easily removable to inspect the tang. The sword has also been inspected and certified by Japan's Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (日本美術刀剣保存協会; The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords), the world's leading authority for evaluating Japanese swords. The sword has been awarded a Hozon designation, indicating that it is recognized as authentic and worthy of preservation by NBTHK. This is a beautiful example of Japanese swordsmithing and could be the centerpiece of any Japanese collection or an introduction to the world of high-end Japanese swords.
