Description
10/31/25 - This is a near-mint Colt Officers Model Match revolver, chambered in .38 special and manufactured in 1968. This particular example is nearly flawless, with just a hint of muzzle wear, a faint turnline on the cylinder, and a few scattered surface scuffs. Minty bore and grips. This example has a few notable enhancements, a trigger job and a set of custom replacement wood target grips. The gun was accurized by renowned California gunsmith Chow, who performed these customizations and created the custom wooden target grips for Colonel Robert Kelley. The timing is flawless, and the trigger is incredible in both single and double action. This listing comes with a few of Chow's notes about minute adjustments he made to improve the mechanics.
Colonel Kelley was the practicing physician to Presidents Truman and Eisenhower, and was later offered the rank of General but turned it down as he wished to be a practicing doctor rather than be stuck behind a desk. Kelley was living in San Francisco at the time that he began to build a collection of Colts and Smith & Wessons, and would practice target shooting at a range nearby after work every day. He managed the Letterman Army Hospital, and while there, he became friends with all of the guards from San Quentin and Alcatraz prison, along with the Army guys from Benicia Arsenal. He became known for his interests in these firearms, and accrued a beautiful collection of rare and exceptional pieces through these friendships.
