Rare 1936 SS Dagger

3/19/26- For sale is a rare 1936 SS dagger. Nearly all Nazi Party organizations were issued with dress daggers during the Third Reich as part of propaganda and intimidation efforts. The SA dagger was the most common of these daggers and the SS dagger, which shares the same basic shape and construction, is the most famous and desirable of the Nazi daggers. This dagger is the 1933 model, designed and introduced right after the Nazis came to power in Germany. The blade of this dagger is clearly etched with the SS motto "Meine Ehre Heisst Treue", or "My Honor is Loyalty", indicating absolute loyalty to Hitler. The etching has been examined under magnification and is slightly jagged around the edges, a clear indication of original acid etching rather than modern laser engraving. The back of the blade is marked with the RZM logo, the "807/36" manufacturer and year code, and the infamous SS lightning bolt runes. 807/36 is an unknown but documented original manufacturer. The blade has light patina and some scabbard wear but no serious damage or edge chipping. Both the upper and lower guards have been tested and they are nonmagnetic, indicating appropriate period manufacture from nickel or zinc rather than modern steel. The wooden handle has a fine grain and evidence of some slight chipping or cracking, defects that are actually often caused by the specific manufacturing process on SS daggers. The eagle and SS emblem are both solidly attached and intact. There is slight fading of the dye, indicating period application rather than a heavy coat of modern color. The scabbard fittings are tightly fixed in place, indicating no removal or repainting. The scabbard is painted black as appropriate with no signs of brown SA paint. There is light wear and a few chips of paint loss but no serious damage. The scabbard liner is the appropriate period construction. Overall in excellent condition and a highlight of any collection!
