Description
12/2/25 - This is an incredibly scarce second variation example of a Dreyse model 7 pistol manufactured between 1907-1909. The serial number 1143 is one of the earliest known, and the majority of those early 1907s are first variation, police issued examples. Only the very earliest 1907s lack a serial number stamping on the top of the breech block behind the slide, and this all matching example is correctly only numbered internally on the frame and a couple of small parts. Other external differentiators include a lack of lanyard ring, "double crown U" proof stamps (used until 1911 or 1912), scalloped slide, and frame markings "DREYSE 1907 Rheinische Metallwaaren- & Maschinenfabrik ABT. SÖMMERDA". The grips for early guns are made of checked horn with an oval cartouche at the top containing the RM&M monogram with retention screw at the rear edge of the grip plate (later moved to the center of the grip where it remained for the vast majority of the guns produced). Internally, early Dreyse pistols are distinguished by having no disconnector. The transfer bar pushes the sear down and then moves past it, resetting when the trigger is released, but there is no mechanism to prevent the gun from firing when the slide is out of battery. The rarity of these early 1907s cannot be overstated, and at the time of this listing this is one of the 20 earliest known examples. The pistol has retained about 98% of its original bluing, with minor muzzle and high edge wear, and one curved spot of finish loss along the rotational path of the safety. While there is not much actual finish loss, there are dots of light surface oxidation throughout both grips straps and front of the slide. Excellent bore and grips. Comes as a rig with a nice soft leather holster and two proper magazines.
