Scarce, Excellent 1945 "Zero Series" Walther P38

9/28/26 - This is an excellent and extremely rare "Zero Series" Walther P.38, manufactured in 1945. Produced at a point so close to the end of the war that the Germans began diverting commercial Mod HP parts in a desperate attempt to complete more pistols for the Wehrmacht, needing to source anything they had on hand. As a mix of HP and P.38 parts, these are serialized in continuation of the commercial range. Called a zero series (or zero prefix) because the serial numbers start with a zero, these are known for their rougher finishes and inconsistent numbering/proofing. Some sources place production totals at around 1,700, while others put the number closer to 1200. This is a fantastic example of this variation, with all the proper features. All matching, with the serial number stamped on the right side of the frame, internal right slide flat (only visible when the slide is pulled back), locking block, and front of the barrel. Only two proof marks on the right side of the slide, with the final military acceptance proof not present, making it possible this was made so late that it was never actually issued. It has retained nearly all of its original finish with just a bit of high edge and muzzle wear, a light runner's mark on the left side of the ejector cover, and a few tiny, faint scratches. There are scattered hints of surface oxidation here and there, but this does not affect the bluing and is very mild. Comes with excellent set of well-fitting reddish bakelite grips, and a rare, end-of-war, "U" marked magazine (which is in excellent condition aside from some runner marks and scattered surface scratches). Minty bore. Slide takes a little extra force to rack but is very smooth for this variation, and the De-cocker is functional.
