Description
10/27/25 - This is a scarce Model 1934 DLV Flyers Knife by SMF (Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stoecker & Co). The blade condition is nearly excellent but does show signs of polishing and mild sharpening, with some light runner marks and some dots of oxidation here and there. The "SMF Solingen" maker’s mark remains crisp, and the original blue pebbled leather buffer pad is intact. The crossguard and hilt are in great shape with mild tarnishing in the grooves, with matching solid nickel-silver fittings, and though much of the gold wash has been lost to time, the crossguard does retain some. The blue pebbled grip leather is excellent, with minor darkening. The steel scabbard is in magnificent condition, with all of the original blue pebbled leather retained, and the coloring is perfect. This knife originates from the Deutscher Luftsportverband (DLV), an organization created by the NSDAP in 1933 and headed by Hermann Göring, which operated as a uniformed paramilitary group to secretly train military pilots in contravention of the Treaty of Versailles under the guise of an "air sports" club, before being disbanded in 1937 and replaced by the NSFK.
