Description
3/2/26- For sale is a SOG Tigershark Bowie knife with original leather scabbard. The original owner provided the following description:
Offered here is a rare early-production SOG Tigershark from circa 1990, featuring a satin-finished, non-serrated SK-5 carbon steel blade and its original flat-bottom leather sheath stamped SOG Specialty Knives EDM. WA. This is not a later production example — it is an early Seki, Japan–made piece from what collectors consider the golden age of SOG manufacturing.
This Tigershark was hand forged in Seki City, Japan by master sword and knife maker Ichiro Hattori, who produced OEM knives for SOG Specialty Knives from 1986 to 2006. Early Seki-made SOG knives are highly regarded for their craftsmanship and quality, produced long before manufacturing shifted to Taiwan and China. The EDM. WA. stamp on the original sheath is particularly important to collectors, as later models no longer included this marking, adding significant desirability and value to early examples like this one.
The Tigershark (SK-5) was the fifth model ever produced by SOG and remains one of the company’s foundational designs. With its 9-inch blade and substantial .250-inch thickness, it has often been described as a “mini sword” — powerful, well-balanced, and exceptionally capable in the field. The knife features flat-ground bevels, a reinforced faceted tip, a rolled edge geometry, and a one-piece molded black Kraton handle surrounding the tang. At 14 inches overall and weighing 17.5 ounces, it delivers impressive chopping performance while maintaining excellent balance and control.
Condition is excellent, approximately 90%. The blade shows light surface scratches and a few faint patina spots typical of properly maintained high-carbon steel. The original leather sheath is also in excellent condition — supple, not dried out, with no significant wear and only a slight indentation on the reverse from display storage. The knife and sheath are completely original, solid throughout, and free from chips, dents, or gouges.
As a reminder, this is an SK-5 carbon steel blade that holds a razor-sharp edge. It should be kept lightly oiled with high-grade knife oil or non-yellowing mineral oil to preserve the finish. The blade has been carefully maintained and is extremely sharp.
Early Seki-made Tigersharks rarely surface for sale, especially in this condition with the correct original sheath. For serious SOG collectors, this is a strong opportunity to acquire one of the most sought-after early models.
