SOLD - Incredibly Scarce Factory Nickel 1st Gen Colt Single Action Army Revolver

11/18/2025 - This is an unbelievably scarce, genuine factory nickel example of a first generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured in 1883, chambered in .45 LC, and featuring a 4 3/4" barrel. Sent to commercial retailer Hartley and Graham in New York, NY March 15th, 1883 in a shipment of 25. The production total for factory nickel first gen .45 cal examples was about 15,000 (less than 1% of total first gen production). The details on this example have been fully verified through Colt archives, and the Colt letter will be sent to the buyer once we receive it. This example has matching numbers everywhere aside from the loading gate, which is correctly distinct (known as the assembly number). Cylinder and barrel are not numbered, which was typical for antique factory nickel examples. Early Colt nickel finishes were notoriously fragile and often retained little to none of their nickel plating. By contrast this revolver is in very good overall condition, and has retained the vast majority of its nickel. The finish is thinning and/or flaking at most edges. There is finish loss on and around the cylinder and along the ejector housing. There is some other scattered, more minor flaking and wear along the barrel and on both grip straps. Some areas of finish loss are accompanied by oxidation, with scattered freckling and a few spots of slightly deeper but still minor pitting. There are scattered nicks and scratches consistent with age and honest handling. The bore is still fairly bright and the rifling is only slightly worn, but there is mild fouling throughout. The mechanics are exemplary, all four clicks perfectly functional, lockup and timing are faultless. Fitted with an incredible set of genuine ivory grips, perfectly fitted to the gun. Antique, so no licensing required.
