03/26/26 - For sale is a Springfield Model 1861 made in 1862. The rifle is in great shape for its age. The metal had aged to a dark grey. The lock plate is clean with the US Eagle clearly visible. The stock is in great shape with a few handling marks. There is a hairline crack about 1/2" in length behind the lockplate. There is a small brass plate that says "E. Whalen 927 W. Lombard St, Baltimore, MD". The bore is in good condition for the age. The rifling is still well defined but the surface is frosted and getting darker towards the muzzle. The rifle comes with an original socket bayonet. The action functions properly.
