Description
1/15/25 - This is a fantastic example of a rare and original Winchester Model 1897 trench shotgun. It falls in the proper serial range (E613000-E705000) and is not martially marked, which is correct for a WW1 example. Features a six-hole handguard/bayonet adapter with "PAT.APPL.FOR" marking, a 20in bbl marked 'cyl', and the slide bar correctly has the model and trademark information. Receiver and cylinder choke marked barrel both stamped with a circled Winchester "WP" proof at the breech. Grooved forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with a Winchester branded checkered hard rubber buttplate. Sight bead shows no signs of movement or replacement. Correct stock with thinner, higher comb that is inletted for a swivel. Mag tube correctly has single screw hole. This gun is in great shape, with no major defects. There are some minor surface scratches on the receiver, and wear/patina on the high edges. Shiny bore with no notable corrosion. Minor handling wear to the wood furniture but no cracks. A couple of slight chips to the buttplate but no cracks.
