SOLD - Rare, Sealed Navy Escape and Evasion Barter Kit - Atlantic Theatre

1/22/26 - This is an excellent example of a Rare Sealed U.S. Navy Escape and Evasion Barter Kit. These kits were issued to American pilots during WW2. The purpose was to provide the pilots with valuable items to use as bartering tools in order to get safely back to allied lines. There were two versions of these kits created, one for the Atlantic theater (European theater) and one for the Pacific Theater. This particular example is the Atlantic theater version. This kit contains approximately .90 troy ounces of fine gold. This gold is in the form of 3 rings and 5 coins. Traditionally these coins consisted of two British gold Half Sovereigns, one British gold Pound Sovereign, a gold 10 Franc coin, and a gold 20 Franc Coin. These kits were offered to the public via sealed bids in the 1970's and 80's. These kits were highly sought after by coin collectors and as a result many of these kits were opened and parted out, leaving still sealed examples rare and highly collectable.
