8/20/25 - This is a fully transferable Thompson M1A1 Submachine Gun manufactured by Savage in 1942-1943. Matching numbers on upper and lower receiver, rare for these wartime examples. Internally, the gun is fully correct, with all “S” marked Savage components, including the barrel, internals, and foregrip. Upper receiver is stamped “Thompson Submachine Gun Caliber .45 M1A1” on the left side, and “Auto-Ordnance Corporation, Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A.” on the right, with the top strap marked by the distinctive Thompson “bullet” logo bearing “Trade Mark” above and “Reg. U.S. Pat. Off.” below. The lower receiver is likely the original finish and is in fair condition, with crisp markings and shows typical rough wartime machining, while the upper receiver and barrel have been refinished, resulting in some visible buffing artifacts that have softened the “FJA” (Col. Frank J. Atwood) and encircled “GEG” (George E. Goll) inspection stamps. The refinished upper also shows minor dings, patches of patina, and light surface rust isolated around the protected L-style rear peep sight housing. The bore is shiny with strong rifling, but there is some light frosting throughout. The wood furniture is in very good shape, with light dings and handling marks throughout, showing honest wear. No significant damage or repairs, but there is a very small chip at the left base of the horizontal forend. The receiver lacks a “U.S. Property” marking, a known variation possibly indicating non–Lend-Lease issue. The selector lever is marked “FULL AUTO” in two lines, confirming Savage manufacture, where Auto Ordnance produced examples have it in only one line. Includes three original 30-round magazines, two by Seymour Products Co. and one by Sparks-Withington. Class III item.
