Description
2/26/26 - This is an example of a rare dual-tone Mauser P.38 issued to the German police force in 1944. It is all matching and has the proper police "Eagle F" proof. Only 1,500 of these pistols were produced, according to Jan Still. Although this example features matching components - frame, slide, barrel, and locking block - this particular pistol has a notable factory error. The barrel has the first digit overstamped, and the third digit stamped upside down. There is no evidence of grinding or refinishing, and by all appearances this is a genuine factory mistake. Rating these dual-tone guns is slightly difficult, due to the nature of the phosphate, but we estimate this one has retained roughly 90% or its original finish. There is general high edge wear, with thinning on the front grip strap and tang, and some dots of discoloration on the front right side of the slide. There is some minor spotty discoloration on the phosphate parts generally, which is typical. Comes with excellent grips and proper late-war magazine. The bore is shiny with decent rifling, but it is noticeably frosted throughout. Functional de-cocker. Excellent mechanics.
