Description
3/23/26 - This is a Smith & Wesson U.S. Army Model of 1917 revolver, serial number 139081, chambered in .45 ACP with a 6″ barrel. It is marked “S&W D.A. 45” on the left side of the barrel; “United States Property” on the underside of the barrel, and “U.S. Army Model 1917 along with the serial No. 139081 on the butt of the grip frame. The serial number is also stamped on the underside of the barrel, top of the cylinder, and it is hand‑numbered on the right grip panel. The assembly number is stamped on each side of the yoke. While this example was made to be issued during WWI, it notably carries Birmingham proof marks and a British export stamp, suggesting it was among the wartime revolvers shipped to Britain before its eventual export. It retains 95% of its original deep blue finish. There are scattered handling marks, surface scratches, and a few areas of light oxidation. A faint turn-line is visible on the cylinder. The hammer and trigger show nice case hardening. The smooth walnut grips are excellent, showing minor dings and mild spots of unremoved varnish around the butt perimeter. Lanyard ring is present and fully functional. Bore is bright with sharp rifling, and only minor frosting in the grooves.
