Description
3/2/26- For sale is a beautiful SOG Trident S2 knife. The original owner provided the following description:
Offered here is a vintage SOG Trident S2, made in Seki, Japan, and complete with its original EDM. WA. marked sheath. This is an early and more desirable example featuring the rarer stacked Micarta washer grip, not the later solid Micarta handle configuration seen on most examples that surface today.
The Trident (S2) was the second knife ever produced by SOG Specialty Knives and represents one of the foundational models in the company’s history. Essentially a maritime variant of the original Bowie (S1), the Trident features a stainless steel blade paired with a black Micarta handle and is distinguished by the US Navy SEAL emblem, rather than the Special Forces crest found on the Bowie. Early stacked Micarta versions are the hardest to find and are widely considered the most collectible configuration.
This knife was hand forged in Seki City, Japan by master sword and knife maker Ichiro Hattori, who produced OEM knives for SOG from 1986 through 2006. Knives from this Seki era are regarded by collectors as the golden age of SOG production, known for superior fit, finish, and craftsmanship compared to later offshore production.
The blade measures 6.25 inches in length and .280 inches thick, with an overall length of 10.75 inches. It is crafted from AUS-8 stainless steel, hardened to Rc 57–58, and finished in a satin polish. The knife weighs approximately 12.3 ounces and features the distinctive faceted tip designed for improved penetration. The handle consists of stacked Micarta washers, giving it the classic early-production look and feel that serious collectors seek.
The original nylon sheath is ambidextrous, allowing for vertical or horizontal carry, and this example retains its desirable EDM. WA. marking — a key detail absent on many later pieces.
Production is believed to have run from approximately 1986 to 2004, with three variations produced over time. Among collectors, this early stacked Micarta version carries a rarity index of approximately 8.5 out of 10.
Early Seki-made Trident S2 knives do not appear often in this configuration, especially in this condition. For collectors focused on early SOG production history, this represents a strong opportunity to secure one of the company’s foundational models.
