Description
9/29/25 - This is a very scarce variation of WWI German Imperial contract Broomhandle pistol. It has both the "Double Crown U" and Imperial German proof stamps. Most of the so called "war time commercial" pistols were within the same serial number range as the rest of the commercial C96 pistols, but carried a German Army acceptance mark on the right chamber. However, there was a very small number of guns that were in their own serial range, similar to the "Red 9" Broomhandles. It is unclear why certain guns were assigned a separate serial range, but only a few are known to exist and this is one of these guns. It is all matching, including the shoulder stock and wood grips. It is in excellent condition, with about 97% of the bluing remaining. One streak of finish loss on the left side of the magazine section of the frame, and some mild wear on the underside of the barrel from sliding in and out of the shoulder stock. Minor pin pricks on the front of the left side of the frame under the barrel, and on the right side of the frame on the Mauser logo. Excellent shiny bore with strong rifling, but some light frost in grooves. Grips are in overall great shape, but there is some wood missing from the right grip around the escutcheon, and there is an "AM" engraved into the bottom of the same panel. The screw holding the Matching stock is heavily sanded with some surface dings and a few pin-sized holes above the screw next to the button release, but no major cracks or repairs, and the stock is fully functional.
