There is also areas of wear on the metal that is exposed and not painted, most significant of which is a patch of patina on the dome. On the left side of the helmet is a hand painted decal that is still clearly visible. The interior of the metal shell likewise shows areas of wear and patina, and has been hand painted with identification which reads " Richard L. Bitterman Sgt, RA33514347". The exterior of the helmet liner is in excellent condition and has most of its original paint along with a clearly visible hand painted decal on the left and a 3rd Army decal that is partially visible on the right. Interior of the liner has the canvas liner intact and is also painted with the same identification as listed above.
