Description
6/24/25 - This is a collection of items belonging to a US Army chaplain who served in WW2 and after. To start, we have a US Army chaplain’s jacket dated to August of 1952. It was made by Saco Uniform in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is named to a Lt. Col. Howeth. It is in very nice original condition with only a few tiny dark spots on the jacket. It has captain’s tabs on the shoulders and crosses on the collars. The original award tabs are above the left chest pocket. These include the WW2 victory ribbon, the American Theater ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific theater, and the Philippines Liberation ribbon. The brass buttons are in excellent shape as well. The pants are also in excellent shape with no holes or cosmetic issues. Comes with a canvas belt with no tears or fraying. The belt has a brass buckle with a “ Made in USA” stamp. All of the plastic buttons on the pants are in place. There are no tags on the pants. These come on a wooden hanger with the name “Betty LaRosa” written on it in pencil. The military cap of the uniform is also in nice shape with only a few very small holes in the front and top of the cap. The brass emblem on the cap is bright with minor wear. There looks to be a small amount of dirt on the leather parts of the cap. The inside of the cap has the maker’s mark of Bancroft Military Caps and a small tag with a size of 7 &⅛. Also included in this lot is a WW2 era helmet liner with chaplain insignia on the front. The white paint of the insignia is fading but you can still clearly see a white cross. The inside of the liner has the proper internals and leather chin strap. The webbing of the liner is marked “M8796” in two different places. Another item here is a spent 75mm Japanese artillery shell casing made at the Nagoya factory. The shell shows wear along the sides and bottom of the casing. On the bottom of the casing there are Japanese symbols and the number “12”.
In addition, there is a WW2 Japanese NCO sword. The scabbard has some wear on its left side with some areas of darkening and paint flaking. The blade shows no evidence of sharpening or polish and carries a sharp edge throughout the length of the blade. Also in this lot is what appears to be a type of canvas rifle cover from the WW2 era with “CH. P.A.G. Machemer 0318996 Romney, W. Va.”. Lastly, there is an extra set of captain’s tabs for a uniform included.
