Description
1/5/22 - This is a nice example of a Gewehr 88/05 "Commission Rifle". It was originally made at the Danzig arsenal in 1890 and was later converted by the Turks. It was originally chambered in 7.92mm Patrone 88 and was later re-chambered for 7.92x57mm S Patrone, as evidenced by the "S" on the receiver. The original bolt was replaced with a non-matching Turkish bolt. The gun comes with a canvas sling, cleaning rod, bayonet (not matching), and bayonet scabbard (not matching). Generally, the gun is mismatched but has no import marks. The metal parts have lost virtually all of their original finish with light brown patina throughout. The stock is nice with only minor dings here and there. One more noticeable ding halfway down on the left side. The stock was likely sanded and refinished. The rifling in the bore is slightly worn with some pin-pricking in the grooves.Specifications
