Description

4/30/25 - This is a very unique and significant piece of world history. Here we have an assembly of several of the personal items of Eva Braun, Adolf Hitler's mistress and eventual wife. Eva was a German photographer who was the longtime companion and briefly the wife of Adolf Hitler. Braun met Hitler in Munich in 1929 (aged 17) when she was an assistant and model for his personal photographer, Heinrich Hoffmann. She began seeing Hitler often about two years later. She attempted suicide twice during their early relationship. By 1936, Braun was a part of Hitler's household at the Berghof near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany, and lived a sheltered life throughout World War II. She became a significant figure within Hitler's inner social circle, but did not attend public events with him until mid-1944, when her sister Gretl married Hermann Fegelein, the SS liaison officer on his staff. The assembly we have here includes several items. First is her calling card. It is a 4x2.5" piece of heavy cardstock with her name typed on the front. This one is in mint condition. Secondly, we have one of Eva's hand or dish towels. The towel is in mint, un-used condition. It is white with a red border and red embroidering. The embroidery has a floral design, the word "Wischtuch" for "wipe", and her "EB" monogram. It is well known that Eva Braun had her initials or monogram on many of her personal items, from linens to dish towels, jewelry, hand mirrors, lipstick holders, and much more. One of the most famous versions of her monogram is her initials "EB" in the shape of a butterfly. The listing includes a copy of the "Collector's Guide To 'Liberated' Adolf Hitler Memorabilia Volume II" booklet which shows many examples of these personal Eva Braun items, many like this towel and nearly all of them with her monogram. Finally we have Eva's personal 14k gold Art Nouveau ring. It is one piece with relief floral engraving work on the sides and a squared shield type face. On the face is Eva's famous "EB" butterfly monogram. This exact ring was sold by Mohawk Arms auction in October of 1991. Included with the ring is an actual copy of the original auction catalog from 1991 which features this ring on pages 84-95. We also have a signed letter from Mohawk Arms that ascertains this ring was sold by them, that to the best of their knowledge it belonged to Eva, and that it came from the collection of American GI Mark D. Griffith M.D., author of the two volumes on Adolf Hitler Memorabilia. The ring is in excellent condition with no obvious signs of wear. Comes in a generic blue ring case. Included along with these personal items are a bunch of modern prints of photos of Eva and print outs of internet research that the previous owner did on her life and other personal items sold in the past. This is truly a significant piece of history!
