Description
8/4/23 - This is a WW2 assembled Type 98 Army Officer Samurai sword. The sword blade is a late Edo period production (mid 1800's) that was hand made and water quenched. The blade has a visible graining on both sides, and a nice visible tempered edge. There are some mild surface scratches around the blade ridge, but these are small and minor. There's also dark lines from cleaning with oil and polish, which creates minor separations in the layers of forged metal over time. This is very minor but worth noting. The tang is short, and has a fake signature (fairly common) despite being handmade, as certain swordsmiths could sell their blades for a premium, even back in the 1800s. The blade is still handmade and quality, however. The fittings are standard WW2 military officer, and are in good condition but show aging and surface wear throughout. The brown cloth wrapping is broken and loose around the middle of the handle. Comes with an attached wood "prayer tag" that we're not sure the significance of. The scabbard is correct and original from WW2, and in great overall condition with normal surface patina and mild aging.Specifications
