Description
1/24/25 - This is an excellent unissued example of a Purple Heart Medal. The Purple Heart was instituted on February 22nd 1932 and is awarded to those service members who were wounded or killed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The Purple Heart is the oldest military award still awarded by the U.S. Military. The medal features the profile of George Washington, from which the medal gets its inspiration from. During the American Revolution, George Washington established The Badge of Military Merit, which consisted of a cloth Purple Heart edged with lace. In 1932 Gen. Douglas MacArthur re-commissioned the award in honor of the Bicentennial of George Washington's birthday, this re-commissioned medal is today known as the Purple Heart.Specifications
