Description

12/18/24 - This is a good example of an Italian WW1 M1891 bayonet. These bayonets were intended for use on the M1891 Mannlicher-Carcano rifles, as well as the M1891 Carbine. It is important to note that these bayonets were not designed to mount the M1891 Cavalry Carbine, or the M1938 short rifle. These bayonets were in circulation in the Italian military for almost 50 years and saw use in both world wars. The blade on this example is in good shape and retains a good portion of it's original black finish. However, the blade also shows signs of sharpening throughout that has lead to finish loss, on top of standard scabbard wear. The cross guard and pommel are in good condition with some spotty areas of oxidation. The cross guard is marked with what looks like "1D". The leather scabbard is in good condition, and has standard wear from use and age. The stitching and attachments for the metal parts remain strong. This bayonet also comes with an original frog that too is in good shape, but the back leather is folded, most likely from prolonged storage like this.
