Description

9/12/23 - This is a Lee Speed Mk II rifle, manufactured in 1895 by London Small Arms, and featuring a 30" barrel. These sportierized conversions of full military stock style target rifles had the front ends cut down and the handguards removed. They were frequently sold to the commercial market after the adoption of the Lee-Enfield rifle, and were held in very high regard by the target rifle community, with this example retaining its original volley sights. The metal has about 85% of its finish remaining, but although there isn't much actual finish loss, there are signs of oxidation throughout the barrel and receiver, and a few spots of old surface rust here and there. The receiver is marked “LSA MKII*” and the bolt head and receiver are marked “Lee-Speed Patents” and with the serial number. The barrel is marked with the serial number, proof marks, and “38 GRS KIFLEITE.” The bore is bright with strong rifling, but there is frost in the grooves. Note that this gun uses Metford rifling as opposed to Enfield rifling, so it is not recommended to shoot fast and jacketed bullets through it. Stock is in very good condition, with no major damage or repairs and just some minor handling marks here and there.
