Description
9/13/23 - This is a combination Shotgun/Rifle, also known as a "Cape Gun", made by the gunsmith Peter Wernig from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the late 1800s. Wernig was a self-made gunsmith known for uncompromising quality. This shotgun barrel is chambered in 16ga, and the rifle barrel is chambered in 9.11mm. The metal is in good condition and free of pitting, but does have patina throughout. The receiver has a nice case hardening pattern on it, with engravings on top. The top of the barrel is marked ÄúP. Wernig, Ferlach '' meaning Peter Wernig of Ferlach, Austria. The bottom of the barrels are stamped with the calibers. There are other various proof marks and numbers, and the shotgun side is stamped ÄúNicht Fur Kugel'' which means ÄúNot for Ball.Äù The metal on the forearm also has a nice case hardening coloring on the inside. The shotgun bore is bright, with minor signs of oxidation, and the rifle barrel is shiny with strong rifling. The stock is in good condition, but looks like it was sanded. Antique, so no licensing required.Specifications
