Description

12/19/24 - This Blunt & Syms R-C "Pepper Box" is a very rare and neat collectible from the Pre-Civil War era! Instead of a modern revolver design where the cylinder rotates, the older Pepper Box style had multiple barrels that rotated. The barrels/action rotate by pulling back on the ring trigger. To arm this Blunt & Syms a .31 caliber projectile was properly loaded in each barrel and a percussion cap was placed on the nipple for each of the coinciding barrels. Although this pistol is an antiquated design by present day standards, during the mid 1800's this was a remarkably sophisticated design and was frequently implemented by militaries and civilians alike for personal protection. Pepperbox revolvers were so named because looking at the front of the weapon was reminiscent of a Pepper Pot of the time, that being a circle of round holes. This design is also unique because the hammer is on the bottom where as most others were on the top. Barrel length is 3.5 inches. The frame, and grip straps are engraved with a floral filigree pattern. The original grips are in excellent condition. Lockup and timing seem to be a little off, but appears to function properly otherwise. Very nice bores for their age. Antique so no license required.
