Description
12/23/24 - This is a great example of a WW1 Iron Cross 2nd Class. The Iron cross was awarded for either bravery in battle or distinguished deeds in combat during a battle. The iron cross was a sought after medal for soldiers of the German Empire. The Iron cross was first established in 1813 and was used up through WW2. Today, the German military still uses the image of the iron cross in various versions. This particular Iron Cross has it's fabric hanger, however we suspect that this is a replacement fabric hanger from old new stock fabric, making this hanger period correct, but still a replacement. This Iron cross was made by an unknown WW1 producer, as the ring is unmarked. The medal itself is in great condition with no paint loss to the black iron core, and a nice patina to the silver outer fittings. The silver outer fitting appears to have had a thin layer of lacquer applied to protect the silver that is now yellowing with age.Specifications
