Description
5/9/25 - This is a very nice example of an original Franco-Prussian War Iron Cross 2nd Class, awarded for merit during the 1870–71 conflict. It features the correct “W” monogram for Kaiser Wilhelm I, the 1870 date, and a Prussian crown on the obverse, with the reverse showing “FW” for Friedrich Wilhelm III, an oak leaf cluster, and the 1813 date referencing the original institution of the Iron Cross. The cross is of traditional two-piece construction with a magnetic iron core and silver frame, showing light toning and minor edge discoloration consistent with age, but no major flaws or damage. The medal is suspended from a correct black-and-white Prussian ribbon, and the details remain well-defined on both sides. Overall, this medal presents in very good condition. This is a strong example of an iconic 19th-century German military decoration.Specifications
