Description

5/22/24 - This is an original WW2 Japanese Footlocker / Trunk. We often see these offered from US GI's, but seldom from Japanese or German soldiers. These are cool pieces of history that often function as a "time capsule" in most cases, containing a variety of memorabilia and personal affects from the war. We suspect a Japanese trunk is fairly rare due to the distance from the US, as well as the "island hopping" approach to the battles against Japan. The trunk itself looks typical from that time period. The canvas cloth cover around the trunk is unique to the Japanese. The front canvas is marked with Kanji markings. All handles and latches are intact and functional with some natural aging patina. The interior of the trunk has two silk pockets attached to the lid, and two interior tiedown straps. Inside the trunk is a photo, a cloth military cap, and other souvenirs as shown in photos. There's a dog tag / ID badge that translates to "Japanese Commissioned Officer Kojima Fumiya". We are unable to assert that these items are all original to the chest or not, but these all came to us together and so we're keeping the set together. Also comes with a decorative knife and case. Makes for a great display or conversation piece for any collector of Pacific theater memorabilia.
