SOLD - Spreewerk P.38 - Extra Waffen Proof

8/19/21 - This is an excellent example of a Spreewerk P.38 issued to the Nazi military in July of 1944. It is all matching and has the proper "Eagle 88" military proofs. This one is unique because it has an asterisk proof and an extra waffen proof on the right side of the slide, indicating it failed initial inspection and was sent back to the factory for repair. It was then re-approved by the Nazi military. There is a slight factory double-stamp on the "P.38" on the slide legend. It comes with excellent grips and a period-correct magazine. It has retained about 96% of its finish. There is minor thinning on the front strap and minor wear around the high edges of the slide and around the muzzle. While there is very little actual finish loss, there is dark brown patina visible under the finish throughout. The bore has good rifling with very minor pin-pricking throughout. De-cocker is functional. There is a lot of heavy grease in the internals - could benefit from a good cleaning.
