Description
7/8/26 - The Colt Third Model Dragoon is one of the most iconic percussion revolvers of the 19th century, produced from 1851 to 1861 with approximately 10,500 manufactured. Chambered in .44 caliber, it features a six-shot cylinder, 7½-inch barrel, and the famous Ormsby-engraved cylinder depicting a Texas Ranger and Indian battle scene. The Third Model incorporated several refinements over earlier Dragoon models, including an improved loading lever latch and rounded trigger guard, making it the most successful and reliable variant. Widely carried on the American frontier and during the early years of the Civil War, the Third Model Dragoon remains one of Colt's most desirable percussion revolvers, prized by collectors for its historical significance, rugged construction, and classic Old West appeal. This one was manufactured in 1851 and is completely matching, down to the barrel wedge. There is a "US" property military marking on the left side of the frame and "B" proofs throughout. The cylinder scene is completely worn. This gun has what appears to be a very old re-blued finish with some light wire brush-like witness marks throughout. The nickel plating over the brass grip straps is chipped and discolored. There is a "W" scratched onto the butt of the frame. The bore shows pretty good rifling, but there is obvious spotty surface oxidation throughout. Fully functional. No FFL required.
