Description

2/23/22 - This is a nice example of a Colt Model 1901 revolver issued to the US military in 1901. The gun is all matching, has the proper "L.E.B." military inspection initials, and has the proper "R.A.C." markings on the left side of the frame and on the bottom edges of each of the grip panels. LEB-marked revolvers were refurbishments done under contract by Remington. Capt. Leroy E. Briggs was the Remington's inspector of these refurbished arms. Most, if not all, went to the US NAVY. The cylinder is tight and the action is smooth. It has retained roughly half of its original finish. There are areas of spotty wear, splotchy discoloration, and spotty oxidation throughout. The grips are hand-numbered on the inside and matching to the gun. There is a hairline crack and one small gouge in the wood on the right side. The bore has strong rifling but there are spotty areas of oxidation and tiny pitting.
