Description
6/22/26 - This is a very nice example of a Remington Model 1911A1 issued to the US military in 1944. This particular gun comes with provenance. The following information is from our consignor: "I purchased this pistol from the estate of retired US Army officer, Vietnam veteran, and West Point graduate LTC Godwin "Ski" Ordway III in 2005. His widow, Ute Ordway, was unsure where her husband obtained the pistol. LTC Ordway's father, retired US Army Colonel Godwin Ordway, Jr. was a highly decorated WWII and Korean War veteran, and served as the Chief of Staff of the 29th Infantry Division during the Normandy invasion before taking command of the 115th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division later that month. He was awarded the Silver Star. Ski Ordway's grandfather was also a retired US Army Colonel, and his great-grandfather was a retired US Army Brigadier General. I attached documents authorizing LTC Ordway to keep this pistol in his government housing in the 1970s, as well as some information about him and his family". See photos for more detailed information. The gun itself is all correct and original with a proper HS barrel. It has retained about 93% of its original finish. The majority of the wear is around the muzzle and high edges. Some minor discoloration at the left front of the frame. Fitted with correct reddish plastic grips and comes with an R marked magazine. Mint bore.
