Description
11/3/26 - For sale is a 1970s US Navy enlisted white combination cap made by Art Caps Military Headwear of New York. In the early 1970s, under Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, the Navy briefly replaced the traditional jumper and white hat for junior enlisted sailors (E-1 through E-6) with a coat-and-tie uniform worn with a combination cap like this one. The change proved unpopular and the traditional uniform returned in the early 1980s, making these caps a short-lived piece of Navy uniform history. The cap carries the enlisted cap device of a silver eagle beneath "USN" on a black backing, mounted on a black band, with a black visor and black chin strap secured by two Navy buttons. The inside has a tan liner, a brown sweatband, a green under-visor, and a clear sweat shield printed with the Art Caps crest. The cap is in nice condition overall. The white outer cover shows some staining from age. Everything else is in excellent condition.
