Description

11/23/22 - This is a nice example of a DWM Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy in 1917. It is all matching (except for the side plate) and has the proper "Crown M" Imperial Navy proofs. It comes as a rig with two mismatched magazines (a chip in one of the wood bottoms) and a modified 1942-dated Luger holster. We've seen these kinds of modified WW2-era holsters before - the toes are typically extended to fit the longer Navy-style barrel. Some are Navy-marked, this one is not. Holsters of this type are even mentioned in Whittington's book. Given the fact that it comes with a modified WW2-era holster, it is very likely this Imperial Luger was reissued to the Kriegsmarine during WW2. Of course, we can't say for certain. In any case, the gun has retained roughly 85% of its original finish. The most noticeable sign of wear is splotchy discoloration and oxidation along the barrel, left side of the frame, and on both grip straps. Minor wear on the side plate, high edges, and around the muzzle as well. It comes with un-numbered wood grips - there are 5 notches etched into the right panel and what looks like an illegible name on the inside of the left panel. Very nice bore with good rifling.
