Description

10/24/22 - Originally manufactured in 1895 as a cavalry carbine, this Lee-Enfield was later reworked for use by the Royal Irish Constabulary, primarily by altering the carbine to accommodate an 1888 sword bayonet. There are double-arrow proofs on the receiver, a Birmingham 1904 cartouche on the right side of the stock, and the brass medallion is marked RIC for the Royal Irish Constabulary. The left side of the receiver is dated 1895 and has the original "LEC" carbine designation. There is also a divot there from when the original carbine ring was removed and polished. The magazine still has its original capture ring. All matching. Generally, there is finish loss around the muzzle and on the front barrel band. Wear on the high edges of the receiver, and a streak of wear on the left side of the receiver. There are some areas of brown patina and pin-pricking on the receiver and noticeable pitting around the muzzle. The stock shows noticeable signs of wear - dings, dents, and scratches throughout. A small wood repair on the underside of the hand guard. Nice bore with good rifling. Import mark on the right side of the receiver.
