Description
10/11/22 - This is a very nice example of a BYF 43 Mauser K98 issued to the Nazi military in 1943. The gun is all matching and has the proper military acceptance proofs throughout. On the right side of the butt stock, an inscription was stamped into the wood. It reads "Vire France, 7 Aug 1944, 1st Lt G.O. Boyles" the date and location of this gun's capture and the name of the US officer who captured it. His name is also stamped along the right edge of the butt plate. The previous owner of the gun was able to find some records about this vet, George Boyle. Print-outs included in the listing. Among this info is a photo of George's grave in Vermont. Interestingly, the original sling was replaced with a US issued M1 Carbine sling - may have been George's! The gun is in very nice condition overall. There isn't a ton of actual finish loss - general high edge wear, minor muzzle wear, and some thinning on the floor plate. Tiny dots of oxidation on most of the metal parts. The wood stock is nice with some scratching and minor bruising here and there. There are also 3 notches on the left side of the butt stock - could be related to George. The bore is like-new.Specifications
