Description
12/29/22 - This is a very nice example of a rare E. Walther Gewehrfabrik-made "drilling" shotgun/rifle combination, manufactured in December of 1927. Chambered in 16 GA and 8.8mm. We were able to find very little information on this particular gun and only one other on the internet. It has the proper Weimar-era proofs throughout, and the barrels are labeled "Prima Krupp Stahl", "E. Walther Gewehrfabrik", and "Heidersbach B/Suhl". Our best guess is that this particular gun was not manufactured by Walther in Zella-Mehlis but rather manufactured by a subcontractor in the local town of Heidersbach (the next town over - also adjacent to Suhl, where the Sauer drillings were made). It is all matching and has retained most of its original bluing along the barrels, just some light handling marks here and there, and some small dots of discoloration around the chamber. The majority of the case-hardening is worn, but is partially visible in some areas. It is fitted with scope mounts, but does not come with a scope. The wood is very nice, but the finish is slightly worn on the handguard, and there is a tiny repaired chip on the left side next to the receiver (barely visible). All bores are near-mint. Fully functional. There are some tiny bore holes in the horn butt plate.¬
