Description
8/3/23 - This is a potentially rare variation of the FN Browning Model 1910, discussed on page 230-231 of the 2nd edition of Vanderlinden's "FN Browning Pistols" book: "An estimated 6064 pistols were completed at FN in July and August 1940 during the first months of the occupation. This work was performed before the arrival of the first German weapons inspector (WaA613 code). Occupation assembled pistols were usually in the final stages of assembly, have Belgian proofs and feature synthetic grips instead of prewar horn grips. This is due to the fact that horn was unavailable during the war. The wartime assembled pistols were not entered in warehouse logs and do not show up in FN archives." He records several serial numbers in his book, ranging from about 467xxx to 473xxx. Our pistol shows all of the proper characteristics and falls in that serial range. The slide and frame are mismatched. However, the slide is numbered 470421, so it also fits in the proper range. It has retained about 90-92% of its original finish. The majority of the wear is around the muzzle, but there is also minor thinning on the back strap, and minor wear concentrated on the high edges of the slide.Specifications
