7/21/23 - This is a nice example of a Springfield Krag Model 1898 rifle made in 1901. Overall, the gun is in great condition with around 82% of the original finish still intact. There's some mild surface patina on the barrel bands, and areas mild finish loss throughout the receiver, magazine, bolt, butt plate, and trigger guard. The finish appears to be all original throughout however, and the wood stock is all original as well. There's a 1901 dated cartouche inspection stamp on the left side of the stock just above the trigger. The wood has no significant cracks or chips; only a few mild dents and dings. The bore has strong rifling but there's significant residue and surface wear throughout the grooves. We rate the bore at 5/10 but we suspect this could improve with a proper cleaning. Mechanically sound. C&R or FFL required.
