Description

8/21/23 - This is a Cossack-carried Early Soviet Nagant Revolver Rig: Early variation Soviet Nagant revolver dated 1927 with CCCP markings. Retains the high polish blued finish and fire-blued small parts characteristic of Imperial Nagant revolvers. Also has equally rare 1920s era Soviet holster with capped end. Most interesting is the rig's shoulder strap that is embellished with Niello-style silver fittings, a style of silverwork found only amongst Cossacks of the Caucasus Mountain region. Many Russian Cossacks who fought for Germany during WWII surrendered to the Western Allies in Austria at the end of the war. After laying down their weapons and surrendering to the British with the promise of not being repatriated to the Soviets, the Cossacks were then handed back to Soviets by the British where virtually all of them were slaughtered. This event has come to be known as "The Great Betrayal." The gun has retained roughly 70% of its original finish with most of the wear along the barrel and on the cylinder. Very nice bore with good rifling. Period-correct wood grips.
